After the past busy days, we had a longer bus ride to
PPG, which is the Pittsburgh Paint and Glass Company that is headquarter in
Pittsburgh. Before our departure to
Germany, we had a lecture at the University of Pittsburgh about supply chain
with PPG given by a man named Marcus who lives in Cleveland. It was extremely cool
because Marcus came to Germany the same time we were there and talked to us
again along with some of his co-workers. I found this lecture one of the most
interesting ones yet, because it focused more on the business side of PPG. Also
for our final projects PPG is the group I was in so it was even more
interesting due to the pervious research my group have done. We then took a
factory tour and one the coolest parts I think was the “closet” of customized
colors that are stored used by companies. PPG provided us with lunch and it was
very nice to see how appreciated they were to have us there.
Following
the visit, we went back to the hotel and had the rest of the night to
ourselves. In order to get ready for our
presentations on Wednesday we quickly changed at the hotel and then my group
which consisted of Erin, Veronica and Sarah and me from Pitt and then Thomas,
Lucie and Sophia from the University of Augsburg, all gathered together at
Lucie’s apartment to eat and work on our project. To me this was super cool
that were able to experience the student’s personal lives so well. In Germany
housing for students is a lot different from the in the United States. They
don’t have any on campus housing and the University closes after the classes
are over so all of the student live in various locations around the city. To
get to Lucie’s we just had to take a tram about 10-15 minutes. For dinner
Sophia and Lucie made us salad and wraps, which were so good and they were so
kind to run to the store to get us food to prepare this. Also something that is
a lot different in Bavaria is most stores close at 8 if not earlier. We worked
on our projects all night and had a good time while doing so with a lot of
laughs and good times.
