Day 9- Monday, May 16th

Wow, today was an amazing day. The Neuschwanstein Castle blew my mind away, it had to be one of the coolest things I've ever seen. One part of the view was the Swiss Alps as the castle was right on the border of Austria. It was pretty neat to see the top of the Alps covered in snow even in May, and even crazier to think about since we were so close to the mountains themselves. After a while of being able to take pictures of the castle from a spot just below the castle itself, we walked up and were able to actually go inside and tour the castle. Inside the castle was just as beautiful as the outside, with such intricate wood and painting work. I found it very interesting that only a portion of the room were complete in the castle, due to the fact that the King Ludwig was spending all go his money on this castle and nothing else. After 14 years of work on the castle, it wasn't completed due to Ludwig being declared insane and taken off of the thrown.
After spending a while looking at the castle, we walked back down to the parking lot where we took the bus to a small town just outside called Füssen. Here we all had lunch together, where I had pork covered in cheese and bacon and was very delicious. After lunch we had a time to ourselves to walk around and explore. A big hit was this store that sold these Snowballs, which really just tasted like chocolate covered short bread cookie, but they looked a lot more appetizing than they tasted. In Füssen we also had a really good view of the Alps.
After spending a good afternoon and Füssen, we headed back on our bus towards Augsburg we we stopped at a pilgrimage site. Located here in Wieskirche was a popular church which was also very beautiful. As we were leaving to go back to the bus after quickly stopping, me and a few of my friends ran over to these tents that were set up to see what was going on. It looked like a festival of some sort and everyone was dressed in the traditional Bavarian clothing and a ton of food was being served. This was really cool to experience because it wasn't a tourist attraction or anything planned just one of those things you happen to see in the german culture.
