Day 6- Friday, May 13th

After a very long past two days we had some time to sleep in today, which was very much needed. Last time we went to the BMW headquarters we only had a lecture, so today we traveled back to Munich. Today we had a few hours to explore BMW World for ourselves. We first started off in the museum which was so interesting and cool to see the evolution of cars. Even the museum itself was designed very cool it was a spiral that you had to walk up and there was two different sides to it. The first side we went to started with the oldest BMW cars and then went all the way through history to the present day. We were able to see motorcycles, racecars, a car that was completely carved from wood. Being able to see all their different inventions and not just the basic cars was what I thought was the coolest parts. After the museum we went to another building which was were all the new models of cars are held for BMW, Rolls Royce and Mini. Here, we were able to sit inside the cars and even on the motorcycles. Also the new models of the electric cars were visible and its really cool to see for yourself after learning about it in the companies presentation.
After our free time to explore was over, we then reconvened to start our factory tour of the production line of BMW. We were given ear pieces to listen to the women giving the tour so we could hear her during the tour. This tour was unreal, we literally were taken the entire through the entire production line of how a car is made and assembled. One of the coolest parts I thought was that we saw KUKA robots used in their production line putting together the cars. Also the fact most of the car is assembled by robots was alarming in itself. In one part the robots were trained to paint the cars and they were able to switch colors and open the doors of the cars while doing so. Finally, at the end of the tour we were able to see finished customized cars as they proceeded to go for test drives and I was wondering when I was going to get mine.

A much needed nap was taken on the bus ride home as we reached the hotel we were able to change and then on our own for dinner. We had another group dinner with the German students. So far we have spent a lot of time with them, and the connections and bonds we have made so far have made this trip so amazing. It is really nice of them to take all of their time out their days to hang out, but they also have a great time doing it.
