Today marks the one week from the
start of our travels to Germany. Not even a week since we have been here in
Bavaria, and I have already got pretty costumed to their culture. We usually
travel by the tram and bus but today we took the train to Munich. It was a
pretty similar system to the Long Island Railroad that I use at home. During
the day the Bavarian Munich fĂștbol team had a game so the train was
filled with fĂștbol fans dressed up and drinking on the train. It was a
connection I made to United States since people usually do the same thing but
usually for American football games.
After about an hour train ride we
arrived, Munich was a lot different then Augsburg and Nuremberg; it had more of
a crowded city feel. It was filled with a lot more clothing stores, cafes,
souvenirs shops. We then began our walking tour and started off in the city
center where Town Hall is located (pictures below). The town hall was
beautifully architured and gathered a lot of people, because every hour you see
the figurines on the top dance around. As we continued our tour we got to an area
that had a ton of little markets to get fresh fruit, chesses, German style food,
and more. Also in this area was surrounded by a large beer garden with a bunch
of people all gathered together who were eating and drinking. As we continued
our exploration through the city our next major stop was the Hofbrauhaus. Since
there is one in Pittsburgh most people are familiar with the atmosphere inside,
but I have never been to one so I was really excited to see and it was all I
imagined it to be. A huge restaurant with tables filled with German foods and
beer and everybody enjoying each other. A band playing in the middle of the
restaurant added to the typical German atmosphere. We were really lucky that our tour guide
brought us through, and it would’ve been really cool to eat lunch there but
supposedly its pretty expensive and its so popular you need a reservation way
in advance. Then we traveled to see the Theatine Church, and then walked
through an indoor mall which was pretty sick, because it was nothing like the
malls in America. We also walked down this really fancy street that had all
high end retail stores, and just by looking a the cars on the street, you could
definelty tell. We finished the tour by looking at a few more famous buildings
that were really pretty, and then we headed off with free time for ourselves
for the rest of the day. Me, Erin and Sam went to grab lunch back at the beer
garden area and got gelato again, because it so amazing here and actually
pretty cheap compared to ice-cream back home.
We then continued the rest of the day by exploring around and shopping
for souvenirs and then we had some time to relax in the city center. Before we knew it
was time to regroup with everyone, and then we headed to dinner. For dinner we
went to this amazing burger place. I haven’t had a burger this whole trip so
far and I was excited to see what German burgers are like. I got an avocado
burger and it was out of this world, my stomach is growling even thinking about
it. Also besides the food the design of the restaurant was so cool, it had
trees all throughout it, it kind of reminded of the room for the Grand Hotel.
After dinner it started to rain
again, but we headed right to the train to catch our ride home. Today was such
a fun day filled with a bunch of new experiences and memories!
